How Often Should You Service Your Aircon in Singapore?
Every 3 months for a general service, every 6–12 months for a chemical wash – here's how often to service your aircon in Singapore and why it matters.
By SPMM Group ·
Singapore's heat and humidity mean most homes run the aircon every day – often all night. That constant use is exactly why regular servicing matters. A clean aircon cools faster, uses less electricity and lasts years longer.
The short answer
- General service: every 3 months for normal home use.
- Chemical wash: every 6–12 months, or when cooling becomes weak or there is a bad smell.
- Chemical overhaul: only when needed – for heavily clogged, leaking or very old units.
Why every 3 months?
Dust, skin cells and moisture collect on the filter and coil every day. After about 3 months the filter is clogged enough to reduce airflow, so the compressor works harder for the same cooling. A general service cleans the filters, coil and blower and flushes the drainage pipe before it chokes and leaks.
When to service more often
- The aircon runs more than 8–10 hours a day (bedrooms used overnight, home offices).
- You have pets, or live near a construction site or main road.
- Shops, offices and rental units with many users.
Signs your aircon is overdue
- It takes longer to cool the room, or never feels really cold.
- Water drips from the indoor unit.
- A musty or sour smell when you switch it on.
- New rattling, buzzing or clicking noises.
- Your electricity bill has crept up.
