What Is R32 Refrigerant and Why Do New Aircons Use It?
Most new aircons in Singapore use R32 refrigerant. Learn what R32 is, how it compares with older R410A gas, and what it means for your home.

If you're shopping for a new aircon, you'll see "R32" on most brochures. It's the refrigerant – the gas inside the pipes that carries heat out of your home.
R32 vs the older R410A
- Lower environmental impact – R32 has a global warming potential about one third of R410A.
- More efficient – it transfers heat better, so the system can use less electricity.
- Less gas needed – a system typically needs less refrigerant to do the same job.
- Single-component gas – easier to top up and recycle.
Is R32 safe?
R32 is classified as mildly flammable, which is why correct installation matters: proper pipe flaring, pressure testing and leak checks. Our installers follow these steps on every job.
Can I top up my old aircon with R32?
No. An aircon must use the refrigerant it was designed for. Older units get topped up with their original gas – our technician checks the label before any gas top-up.
Thinking of upgrading?
All the Daikin, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Toshiba and Midea systems we install use R32. See installation prices or book a free site visit.
