10 Simple Tips to Lower Your Aircon Electricity Bill in Singapore
Aircon is the biggest electricity user in most Singapore homes. These 10 easy tips can cut your bill without giving up comfort.

In a typical Singapore home, the aircon uses more electricity than any other appliance. Small habits add up – here are 10 ways to cool for less.
1. Set it to 25°C
Each degree lower adds noticeably to power use. 25°C with a fan is comfortable for most people.
2. Use a fan together with the aircon
A ceiling or standing fan spreads cool air so you feel cooler at a higher temperature setting.
3. Service every 3 months
Dirty filters and coils force the compressor to work harder. Regular general servicing keeps it efficient.
4. Close doors and windows
Cool only the room you're in, and keep it sealed.
5. Block the afternoon sun
Curtains or blinds on west-facing windows reduce heat entering the room.
6. Don't switch on and off repeatedly
Inverter aircons are most efficient running steadily. Use the timer instead of turning it off and on.
7. Use Eco or sleep mode at night
These modes gradually raise the temperature as you sleep, when your body needs less cooling.
8. Keep the outdoor unit clear
The condenser needs airflow to release heat – don't store things around it, and get a compressor wash when it's dirty.
9. Choose the right BTU
An undersized aircon runs non-stop. Read our BTU guide.
10. Replace very old units
An aircon over 10 years old can use far more power than a modern inverter model with more energy-efficiency ticks. A new System 3 installation often pays back in lower bills over time.
